ONTARIO SCHOOLS
-Nishnawbe Aski Nation Indian Residential Schools in Ontario, 2005 -
There were sixteen (16) residential schools in Ontario. Two (2) of them were in southern Ontario and fourteen (14) of them in northern Ontario. The schools in southern Ontario, the Mohawk Institute and Mount Elgin residential schools were operated, respectively, by the Church of England (Anglican Church) and the United Church. In northern Ontario, six of the schools were operated by Roman Catholic religious orders, the Church of England operated four of the schools, one was operated by the Presbyterian Church, and three by the Mennonites.
