Discharge

DISCHARGE

- Nishnawbe Aski Nation Indian Residential Schools in Ontario, 2005 -

There were several reasons that a student could be discharged from school. A student was normally discharged at the end of the school year following his or her sixteenth birthday. In some instances a students would be discharged and sent home if he or she proved to be too difficult to manage or disrupted the other students. If a student was absent from school for an extended period, for any reason, he or she would be discharged. A student would also be discharged if he or she married, became ill and sent to a hospital or sanatorium for an extended stay, was convicted of a criminal offence and sent to a facility or juvenile delinquents, or died.
