No One Went Home
- Nishnawbe Aski Nation, 2005 -
One of the most striking memories I have of the three years spent at residential school was Christmas time. Classes were finished and we had two weeks off. I thought lots of the kids would go home to be with their families, but none of them went home, I knew I was not going because my father told me that before I left for school. With nothing much to occupy their time many of the younger children became sad and lonesome because they missed their families, particularly at that time of the year, which was usually a happy time. Many of the children cried and some of them became sick.
